Bill Foster (D-IL) for House
Rep. Bill Foster
Party: Democrat
State: Illinois - 14th District
Race Results: Bill Foster won re-election in 2008 and has secured his place as representative for Illinois' 14th district.
In March 2008, Rep. Bill Foster (D-IL) stormed to national prominence by winning a special election to fill the seat of retiring former Speaker of the House Rep. Dennis Hastert (R). Foster defeated Jim Oberweis, a local businessman who supported the Bush-McCain position that the U.S. should stay in Iraq for another ten years. This November, Foster faces Oberweis again in a general election rematch.
As a nuclear physicist, Foster understands the dangers of nuclear weapons and is dedicated to Council for a Livable World's vision of a nuclear weapons-free world.
Foster will be one more voice in Congress against the Iraq war. Foster believes that:
“We need to end our involvement in the war in Iraq, and begin bringing home our men and women in uniform. They have done all that has been asked of them, and our soldiers are not the answer to a religious and sectarian civil war. We now need a political solution, not a military one.”
As a nuclear physicist, Foster also understands the dangers of nuclear weapons and is dedicated to Council for a Livable World's vision of a nuclear weapons-free world. He is also committed to finding clean, renewable sources of energy to end America's dependence on oil.
Political prognosticators believe the race is leaning Democratic, but Republicans are eager to avenge their special election loss. Foster needs all the help he can get.
