Rep. Donna Edwards
Party: Democrat
State: Maryland - 4th District
Race Results:After an astonishing primary win, Edwards won the general election by attaining more that 85 percent of the votes.
On February 12th, progressive activist Donna Edwards won a major victory in the Maryland Democratic primary. Edwards, endorsed and supported by PeacePAC, defeated Rep. Albert Wynn, a Democrat with a history of supporting the Bush administration on the Iraq war. Wynn also voted to pass the Republican energy bill, weaken the Endangered Species Act, drill for oil in Alaska's protected land and give billions of dollars in tax breaks to oil and gas companies.
Edwards highlighted Wynn's record of support for the President and won a commanding victory over the incumbent 59-37%.
Donna Edwards has a long history of social activism. She has worked for women's rights, helping to found the National Network to End Domestic Violence and leading the effort to pass the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. She has been active in promoting reform of campaign finance and lobbying rules. She participated in the protest against the Iraq war on the steps of the Capitol. If elected, she will work hard to bring U.S. troops home.
PeacePAC endorsed Edwards because of her long-time commitment to peace and social justice. Edwards will be a leader in ending the U.S. occupation of Iraq, as well as a dedicated advocate for arms control.
Edwards is now favored to win in this Democratic-leaning District. Her opposition is Peter James, a local computer consultant who won the Republican primary handily. You can help Donna Edwards build upon her dramatic victory by making a check out to:
